International Living's Live Overseas
and Prosper Conference
As
promised, we are pleased to report
to you on our attendance at last
month’s Live and Prosper
Overseas conference, a three
day event organized by
International Living and held at
the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. The
organizers, as we found out, have
been in the travel and publishing
business for over 28 years. The
event was first-class, all the way.
Opening day saw
over 220 attendees present as well
as more than 30 presenters from
Mexico, Central and South America,
plus Europe and New Zealand. What
we discovered was a very well
organized schedule of presentations
from industry professionals covering
the many details one would need to
consider and deal with when planning
to live or retire abroad. A number
of international developers also
presented their current and
forthcoming projects to the
attendees.
Additionally, a
number of the presenters had booths
set up in the exhibition hall
adjacent to the conference, where
they offered everything from
worldwide health insurance to
investment opportunities to legal
counsel. Several of the developers
had wonderful video presentations
running at their tables, touting the
good life at their respective
corners of paradise in Nicaragua,
Belize, Panama and Mexico.
What was the
crux of the event? Simply that
growing numbers of Americans are
looking beyond our US borders to own
a second home or to find a really
unique place for their active
lifestyle or retirement.
And now, with
the prevalence of high speed
Internet and the advent of VoIP
(voice over Internet phone) some
boomers and active seniors are
moving beyond our borders and
continuing to work by telecommuting
right from their perfect piece of
paradise. It is, for example,
reported that over 100,000 Americans
live in France and continue to work
for their US employers by just such
means.
We extend our
thanks to the International Living
events department for allowing us to
attend their conference. We
discovered that they do a number of
conferences in various places
throughout the year. You can find a
list of them by
