Thanks for joining us for this month’s edition of Active Living News. Spring has spring and we are already knuckling in to the dog days of summer. For us, it’s all about work – and don’t get us wrong – we love what we do!

Our ActiveAdultLiving.com website is nearing a milestone, and a monster one at that… We are soon to top 2,000 communities listed from Canada to Mexico and all across our great United States.

For you, it’s all about choices. Your biggest decision may be to figure out whether or not you want to be in an age-restricted community. Will your decision be based upon the amenities offered, the location, the weather, the tax structure or any of a myriad of other factors?

That’s why we love what we do. And, although we say it ourselves, we honestly believe that ActiveAdultLiving.com is unique in being the most concise directory on the Internet. We delight in giving you choices – lots and lots of choices! It’s not often enough that we take time to thank those who help to make it all possible.

But we do want to take a moment to recognize and thank Helen Moon (or Digger, as she is affectionately known to some). Among other things, Helen is responsible for much of the behind the scenes research to ‘dig out’ information and data on new and additional communities for us to add to our directory – and it’s all so that you can make as informed a decision as possible when considering your choices for an active lifestyle or age-restricted community. So, dig on Digger!

And we also want to thank you, our readers! We are now up over 10,000 opt-in subscribers to our monthly Active Living News e-Newsletter. And, thanks as well to all of you for visiting (and revisiting) our ActiveAdultLiving.com website. Last month we again broke all records with over a quarter of a million pages viewed.

That simply confirms to us that you want the information that we are providing. Boomers and active seniors comprise the largest segment of the US population, and active lifestyle and age-restricted communities represent the fastest growing segment of the residential real estate market (and the new home industry). And that’s why we do – and love - what we do!

Please help us grow our Active Living News e-Newsletter so as to serve you better. Take a look through, and let us know what you think! We’d really appreciate your input and comments. Click here to drop us a line.

International Living’s Live Overseas and Prosper Conference
by Stephan LaCount

As promised, we are pleased to report to you on our attendance at last month’s Live and Prosper Overseas conference, a three day event organized by International Living and held at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas. The organizers, as we found out, have been in the travel and publishing business for over 28 years. The event was first-class, all the way.

Opening day saw over 220 attendees present as well as more than 30 presenters from Mexico, Central and South America, plus Europe and New Zealand. What we discovered was a very well organized schedule of presentations from industry professionals covering the many details one would need to consider and deal with when planning to live or retire abroad. A number of international developers also presented their current and forthcoming projects to the attendees.

Additionally, a number of the presenters had booths set up in the exhibition hall adjacent to the conference, where they offered everything from worldwide health insurance to investment opportunities to legal counsel. Several of the developers had wonderful video presentations running at their tables, touting the good life at their respective corners of paradise in Nicaragua, Belize, Panama and Mexico.

What was the crux of the event? Simply that growing numbers of Americans are looking beyond our US borders to own a second home or to find a really unique place for their active lifestyle or retirement.

And now, with the prevalence of high speed Internet and the advent of VoIP (voice over Internet phone) some boomers and active seniors are moving beyond our borders and continuing to work by telecommuting right from their perfect piece of paradise. It is, for example, reported that over 100,000 Americans live in France and continue to work for their US employers by just such means.

We extend our thanks to the International Living events department for allowing us to attend their conference. We discovered that they do a number of conferences in various places throughout the year. You can find a list of them by clicking here.

Driving to the End of the World
by Mark McMahon

Reading Driving to the End of the World May Have You Saying, “I’m gonna read that again!”

Are you living the life of your dreams? Find your voice! Follow your heart! Ignite your passion! Live your adventure! Those are words to live by from first-time author, Mark McMahon.

Every once in a while a book comes along that may surprise you. McMahon’s autobiographical book, Driving to the End of the World, may be just such a book. From his very first words, “I’m gonna die,” you may find yourself completely spellbound. Filled with adventure, comedy and romance his page-turning wonder gracefully interweaves elements of tragedy and discovery with a self-deprecating humor which may have you laughing out loud.

The story begins with a tragedy. McMahon’s epiphany that he would one day die, motivates him to live. He sells his thriving dental practice, buys a used pick-up truck and begins a two-year driving odyssey from his home in Tucson, Arizona to the “end of the world” in Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina. Along the ride, he meets a wide array of “characters”, gets in a little trouble, has a whole lot of fun and learns something special about his world and his life.

It is rare when an author can accomplish such an exceptional piece of literature on his first try. McMahon is clearly a brilliant storyteller and his willingness to completely open himself to his reader is enlightened. Even this early in his writing career, he deserves mention along with great adventure travel writers Paul Theroux and Tim Cahill. Driving to the End of the World is not merely great reading, it’s an important book for anyone who has ever asked themselves “Why?”

My only complaint is that I cannot read McMahon’s next book right now. However, for only $14.95 (+ shipping and handling) you CAN read his first book. Just click here to order it NOW! Or, you can read more about Mark and his book by visiting his website, www.LiveYourAdventure.com.
